Echoes of Humanity

Molly wakes up on board the UNSF Raven. Systems are online. Fuel levels stable. No signs of damage. Just one problem:

There’s no one left.

She was only unconscious for a few minutes - at least, that’s how it felt. But the ship’s logs say something else. The stars have shifted. The solar system is... different. And Earth has gone completely silent.

Nearly 300 years have passed.

There was no war. No apocalypse. The stations still orbit. The satellites still blink. But the people are gone. All of them.

Something happened. Something that didn’t break the machines or scorch the sky. Something that left the buildings standing and the systems running. Something that only erased us.

It’s called the Echo.

A phenomenon. A presence. A whisper from the edge of the galaxy. It moves slowly, star by star, and when it reaches a system, intelligent life disappears. No destruction. No aftermath. Just silence.

The Echo passed through the Solar System long ago. Now Molly is alone in what remains.

“Everything works. But no one answers. And I think that’s what scares me most.”
- Internal log, Molly Shinbo
