Navigation in a Dead System


Navigation is divided into two scales: regional movement across the system (Space Map), and direct exploration within a sector (Sector Map).

The Sector Map

The sector map is a grid-based interface, heavily inspired by the world map in Fallout 1 or Fallout 2. Molly can freely move her ship around each region, gradually revealing the fog of war. Exploration reveals abandoned locations: ruined stations, derelict research vessels, sometimes wreckage with usable parts. Some are persistent. Others disappear after a single visit. Ship's fuel is needed to explore the Sector Map. As Molly travels around this map, she encounters random events such as lost cargo containers, forgotten satellites and, of course, enemy units, which she fights in ship versus ship duels.


The Star Map

The star map connects larger systems through a network of nodes. These represent planetary sectors or orbital zones. Some sector nodes are visible from the start. Others require specific discoveries, events, or main story progression. A few are hidden entirely. There is no combat during travel. Just distance.
